Charlotte/Charlie Katherine Smith is a Los Angeles and New York City based award-winning choreographer and filmmaker, dance artist, educator, producer, and casting director. Director and Resident Choreographer of Charlotte Katherine and Co. and Veritas Dance Project, her emotionally charged choreography about the human experience showcases internationally on stages, film festivals, and viral music videos including Seoul International Dance Festival in TANK (Seoul, South Korea), Internationales Deutsch-Koreanisches Tanzfestival (Berlin, Germany), The Ford Amphitheater (Los Angeles), Los Angeles Dance Festival, Noah Cyrus, Teddy Swims, Casey Abrams, The Regrettes, Seattle, San Diego, New York, Carmel By-The-Sea, and more. Her accomplishments include commissions, international collaborations, residencies, and numerous awards, including Luckman Director’s "Pick of the Festival" at LA Dance Festival 2020. Charlie is a Co-Producer of the Internationales Deutsch-Koreanisches Tanzfestival - Berlin, Germany.
In 2019 Charlotte was a featured living sculpture at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles for Xu Zhen's "In Just A Blink Of An Eye" exhibition. Alumni of Idyllwild Arts Academy (Outstanding Dancer of the Year 2008), she continued her dance education at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance as a member of the Purchase Dance Corps (including Rehearsal Assistant for the reconstruction of Bella Lewitsky’s Kineasonata), and founding member of the Hoover Dam Collective. She graduated Cum Laude with a BFA in dance from Cornish College of the Arts, while dancing professionally in Seattle for Kate Wallich, The Seattle Men’s Chorus, Anna Connor, and the Bad Girls Movement Society. Charlie collaborates with many artists including Zac Greenberg (NYC, USA), and Jeong Mi-young (Seoul, Korea). Charlotte is Rehearsal Director and Company Manager for Spector Dance. She performed with Sean Greene's Shield Wall Dance Co, Katie Malia, BrockusRED, Donna Sternberg and Dancers, Kelley Alvarez and Artists, and many other collaborators. She is Resident Choreographer for pop artist, Fiona Grey. When not dancing, Charlotte works in film and event production, arts education and administration, and festival committees with organizations such as Seoul International Festival in TANK, OXPO English School (Mirissa, Sri Lanka), LA Dance Festival, Spector Dance's Choreographers' Showcase, The Ocean Arts Festival (Monterey, CA), Pony Box Dance Theatre (South Central, LA), and Brockus Project. Charlie is a certified yoga teacher (200-hour Yoga Alliance), personal trainer (ACE), and 501c-3 non-profit organization, SpectorDance, Board Member. |
